ACB Seeks Youth Group Participation

Annapolis Community Boating is reaching out to youth organizations to provide the ability for these groups to experience access and training on the waters around Annapolis. To accomplish this they are actively seeking youth organizations who can bring their members to a facility which will provide the appropriate resources and curriculum for their needs.

The boating experience can be one evening or a series of evenings.

Womanship – Transforming Day on the Bay

On August 21, the sailing school Womanship hosted a free session for six girls from the YWCA for a “Transforming Day on the Bay,” which is an introduction to sailing and the Chesapeake.

“I’m really excited for us to work together with the YWCA,” says Womanship owner Suzanne Pogell, who originally contacted Annapolis Community Boating (ACB) to find a group of women who would benefit from such an experience. The YWCA is one of the groups ACB works with closely and for which it actively seeks new ways to get students on the water. ACB was enthused to arrange the day, set the date, and facilitate yet another free, on-the-water community program.

“We’ve never been able to reach this audience before. We would really like to have a regular series of courses for young women. This is an opportunity for the full gamut of interests—for those who are just becoming comfortable on a boat and for anyone who feels comfortable more quickly, who will help run the boat by steering, docking, or plotting a course. Of course, for all of us, it’s a thrill to sail out of our historic city of Annapolis, as people have for 350 years.”

ACB thanks Womanship for the opportunity to share its program with the community. ACB is affiliated with many groups and organizations that would benefit from boating events and is always seeking individuals and businesses to donate time, equipment, or funding to make such events realities.
