Spirit of America

Annapolis Community Boating (ACB) will launch its free Spirit of America safe-boating program for youth ages 11-14 at Mayo Beach Park August 16-21 in conjunction with Anne Arundel County Recreation and Parks.

A U.S. Coast Guard-sponsored program, the Spirit of America Foundation has created this introductory boating safety program taught on sailing dinghies, canoes, kayaks, and outboard-powered johnboats.

During the free, week-long camp, students will learn the following:
• How to properly wear lifejackets
• How to sail
• How to kayak, canoe, and row
• How to use a motorboat
• How to jet ski
• How to deal with weather conditions on the water

Students will also have the opportunity to ride in a U.S. Coast Guard boat and at the successful completion of the week, will earn their Maryland boater’s license. ACB’s Spirit of America program is open to the public and free with the understanding that students will attend every session.

The dates are set for Aug 16-21st, 9:00 am – 4:30 pm at Mayo Beach Park.  This camp is free with the understanding that the students are able to make every session.

This course is full for 2009. We will be hosting it in 2010.
